We are day zero investors who dedicate ourselves to being the best partners at the earliest stage. We run a concentrated strategy and invest a majority of our capital in the initial round so we’re the most aligned with founders for the long term. Our initial check size is typically $1.0-1.5m. We’ve seeded multiple companies that have reached billion dollar plus valuations and returned real money to LPs. We have also co-founded eight venture backed companies internally at Max and know what it’s like to build.
We Partner with world class Founders
We help build global successes
In 2014, we made our first seed investment as a single-LP fund. Over the next decade, we’ve raised 3 external funds, invested in over 85 early-stage startups, co-founded eight companies, and now manage over nine figures in assets under management. Our strategy has evolved along the way, but our core vision has remained the same: we’re day-zero investors who often commit to invest before a company is even incorporated, and we strive to be the best possible partners during the first 24 months of a company’s life. Our approach is a concentrated pre-seed strategy where we invest a meaningful percentage of our fund—typically 2–5%—in the initial check, ensuring our incentives are deeply aligned with the founding team.
We love the craft of early-stage investing, where everything depends on the founding team, the market, and the ability to make decisions with imperfect information. We also love incubating ideas ourselves. When we have strong conviction about a concept, we devote considerable time and effort to co-founding companies alongside talented founding teams. Since 2017, we’ve co-founded eight companies internally at Max Ventures. We do it because we genuinely love the process. We've also realized the process of incubation makes us better investors and partners to our founders. By building a pre-seed fund that incorporates craft incubation, we're able to offer a differentiated value proposition for founders.
The venture capital landscape has changed significantly since we made our first seed investment in 2014. Large funds have dramatically increased their assets under management, and much of the original “craft” of early-stage investing has become institutionalized. As Max Ventures has grown, we’ve consciously chosen to stay manically focused on our day-zero investing strategy and maintain a fund size that best fits that strategy. In the current environment, a vast majority of VCs don’t have real ownership in the fund they work at and as a result the process has become more transactional and short sighted. When you partner with us, you’re working with people who own the fund, speak for the money, and are 100% focused on the long-term outcome of the company instead of short-term metrics. We are a fund that is maximally aligned with the founders we invest in.
